Two months after some members of Supreme Eiye Confraternity allegedly snuffed life out of one Olaosebikan Tejuosho, at Isale Abetu area of Abeokuta, Ogun State, eleven suspects, who allegedly partook in the murderous act, have been arrested.
The suspects, currently in police custody, while singing like canary birds, confessed to Olaosebikan’s killing on 25th March 2022.
They also confessed to being responsible for the killing of one Habib Mego and one other person, simply known as “School Boy”, in the Omida area of Abeokuta on the same day.
The suspects were identified by the state police command in a press statement issued by its spokesman (PPRO), DSP Abimbola Oyeyemi, as Quadri Ogunsanya (a.k.a Oguns); Jamiu Kehinde (a.k.a General Smart); Adenekan Samuel (a.k.a Adiye); Waris Ismail and Olamilekan Hamsat (a.k.a Diara).
Others are Bamidele Waliu; Makinde Azeez; Makinde Ifajimi; Makinde Fashakin; Makinde Faleke and Ajeifa Arifasope.
“The suspects were arrested at Itoku area of Abeokuta metropolis, following a credible information received by the anti-cultists section of the command”, the PPRO said, adding that, “the cultists, who were said to have been involved in series of bloody cult clashes within the metropolis, were planning another onslaught at Itoku area”.
Oyeyemi further said: “Upon the information, the officer-in-charge of Anti-cultists Unit, CSP Shobiyi Oluwatoshin, mobilised his men and moved to the area, where eleven members of the group were apprehended”.
The statement reads in part: “On interrogation, the suspects confessed to being members of the dreaded Eiye cult group; they confessed their involvement in a series of cult clashes, one of which led to the killing of one Olaosebikan Tejuosho at Isale Abetu area of Abeokuta on the 25th of March 2022.
“They also confessed to being responsible for the killing of one Habib Mego and one other person simply known as Schoolboy (real name unknown) at Omida area of Abeokuta all on the same day”.
The state Commissioner of Police, CP Lanre Bankole, has, however, ordered a full-scale investigation into the past activities of the suspects while also directing that other members of the group must be hunted for and brought to book.
The police boss also warned parents and guardians to call their wards to order, as the clampdown on cultists across the state would continue until the state was cleansed of hoodlums terrorizing the good people of the state.
