OLUKAYODE Victor Olusola, a student of Government Secondary School, Omu-Aran, Kwara State, has emerged as one of the top contenders for the highest scorers in the recently conducted Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME).
With a score of 362 in the examination, Olukayode’s feat pears resounding in two ways. One, he is a product of a publicly owned school which in recent years has lost time-held primus intepares status to their privately owned institution competition.
Second is the fact that the high namely 95 marks each in Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry and 77 in English Language, was achieved at a time when the examination recorded a low score. According to the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB), organisers of the examination, out of 1.8 million candidates that sat for the exam, only 1.4 million scored 200 marks and above out of the available 400.
Though the Registrar of the Joint Admission and Matriculation Board (JAMB), Prof. Ishaq Oloyede, organisers of the exam, had said the Board would not announce the highest scorer to avoid last year’s experience of confusing claims, Olukayode’s score is celebratory, as it is among the highest in recent years.
Olukayode was born in 2009 and hopes to study Electrical Electronics at the University of Ilorin, Kwara State.
His mother, Beatrice Tosin, while giving all the honour to God, also praised the studious and hard-working nature of her child.
