Former Kaduna Central Senatorial District Senator, Shehu Sani, Monday advised former President Goodluck Jonathan, not to be “deceived”.
There have been speculations regarding the Bayelsa State-born politician’s interest in the 2023 presidential election with his erstwhile spokesman, Dr Reuben Abati confirming at the weekend that his former boss would contest in the election on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC).
However, Senator Sani who has indicated an interest in the Kaduna State governorship position, on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), asked Jonathan to face the reality.
“GEJ should not deceive himself nor allow himself to be deceived,” Sani wrote on his Facebook page.
Jonathan, who was the candidate of the former ruling party in 2015, was defeated by President Muhammadu Buhari, who was the APC candidate.
As the call for power shift to the southern part of the country intensified, some Northern interest groups within the APC were allegedly afraid of losing power for the eight years Buhari’s successor might spend in the office.
It is being speculated that power brokers felt that Jonathan, having been in office for four years, could be supported to spend a term in office to make it possible for another Northerner to emerge President after being out of power for just four years.
