NIGERIA’s Super Eagles Monday suffered their first defeat in Abidjan in the race to reach the 2026 World Cup finals as the Cheetahs of Benin Republic handed them a 2-1 defeat.
The match played in Benin Republic’s new home ground was Match Day 4 of the qualifiers.
Raphael Onyedika scored three minutes before the half-hour mark but two goals within eight minutes from Jodel Dossou and Steve Mounie gave Benin Republic a deserved win.
Benin Republic now leads Group C with seven points, two more than Lesotho. Rwanda and South Africa are on four points each while Nigeria has three points, Zimbabwe completes the table with two points.
