A Keke NAPEP operator, Rasaq Taoheed is presently cooling his heels in police custody following his arrest over the alleged robbery and rape of his passenger.
Rasaq (22) reportedly collected every dime his victim had on her and, was on the verge of accomplishing the last lap of his act when help came for the victim.
Having achieved his first two topmost desires of sleeping with the woman and draining her purse, Rasaq reportedly headed towards an unknown destination during which the victim, noticing the presence of some people by the roadside, raised the alarm, leading to her rescue and arrest of the randy suspect.
The woman, in her narratives, told police that she boarded the suspect’s tricycle on Monday, 20th June from the Pakoto bus stop, to alight at Iyana Coker, both within the Ifo axis of Ogun State.
Midway into the journey, the Keke operator veered off the Lagos/Abeokuta Expressway, arousing the victim’s suspicion and protest, followed by her probing the operator.
But In a predetermined act, the momentary ‘abductor’ reached for his locally-made pistol, which he pointed at the victim, with a threat to silence her forever should she attempt to play smart.
The suspect then drove her into the premises of
Olose Primary School in Ifo, where he raped her and collected the physical cash on her.
The suspect later ran out of luck when, according to the Ogun State Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), DSP Abimbola Oyeyemi, he made for another route, off the victim’s destination.
“But on getting to the Oritameje area, the victim sighted some people and she raised the alarm that led to the arrest of the suspect”, Oyeyemi said.
According to the PPRO, “The suspect was arrested following a distress call received by policemen at Ifo Divisional Headquarters at about 4a.m of the said date that a middle-aged lady who boarded a tricycle from Iyana Coker in Ifo raised the alarm that the tricycle operator was taking her to unknown place for a reason not known to her”.
Upon the distress call, the police spokesman said, “The DPO, CSP Kehinde Kuranga, quickly led his patrol team to the scene, where the suspect was promptly arrested”, adding that, the suspect confessed to the commission of the crime”, and that the tricycle and locally-made pistol were recovered from him.
The Commissioner of Police, Lanre Bankole has, however, ordered the immediate transfer of the suspect to the state Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department for discreet investigation.
