A 22-year-old suspected cultist, captured on CCTV footage, spilling the blood of a rival cult member in a Lagos restaurant, has been arrested.
Jamiu Rasheed had on 7th July 2022 hacked and shot one Akinola Ayegbusi dead at a restaurant in the Alapere, Ketu area of the state.
Arrested alongside Jamiu were two other alleged cultists, Sheriff Module (26) the klansman Confraternity’s armourer, in whose possession were found two locally fabricated pistols, as well as one Emmanuel Samson.
Jamiu, whose membership of the klansman Confraternity dates back to 2017, was said to have actively participated in the killings of two members of rival groups, police revealed.
SP Benjamin Hundeyin, the Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), stated in a press release that, investigations into the murder of Akinola led to the arrests of the other two cultists.
Sheriff who, the statement revealed, also participated in the Alapere gruesome murder, confessed that they acted in revenge for the 23 November 2021 killing of the leader of Eiye Confraternity, of which he was a member.
According to the PPRO, “Efforts are ongoing to arrest other fleeing cultists, adding that the three suspects would be arraigned on conclusion of investigations.
Meanwhile, Hundeyin said, “the Lagos State Commissioner of Police, CP Abiodun Alabi, has called on parents/guardians as well as traditional/religious/political leaders to prevail on their children/wards and the teeming youth population to stay away from cultism and other social vices.
