THE police in Rivers state have confirmed reports of the murder of a 300-level student of the University of Port Harcourt, Justina Otuene, by Demain Okoligwe, a 400-level student of the same institution who is said to be her boyfriend.
Parading the suspect before newsmen today 26 October the state Commissioner of Police (CP) Nwonyi Emeka, said on Wednesday, 25 October, at about 3.30 pm, operatives of Ozuoba Division received a complaint from a good Samaritan and neighbour (name withheld) of Road 20, back of NTA Ozuoba that he went to his house where one Demain Okoligwe ‘m’, a fellow tenant resides and perceived a very bad odour and immediately rushed to the police station where the DPO led detectives to the scene.

The police boss said the fleeing suspect, who was the boyfriend of the deceased, Demain Okoligwe ‘m’ 24yrs old, a Petrochemical Engineering 400 level student of UNIPORT, was arrested.
CP Emeka said the lifeless and butchered body of Justina Otuene, 20, a Biochemistry 300-level student at UNIPORT, was recovered and deposited at the mortuary.
He mentioned that a preliminary investigation is in progress and that the case has been transferred to SCID for discreet investigation. He condoled the family of the deceased victim and urged young ladies to be cautious about any person they involve themselves in any form of relationship.
However, when asked why he committed the act, Demain Okoligwe denied any involvement. “I did not kill her, I only found her dead in my apartment in the morning. I don’t know who dismembered her body”, he stated.
