A crisis may soon erupt in Ekiti State House of Assembly barely following the death of the erstwhile Speaker Hon Funminiyi Afuye, following an alleged directive of the former governor of the state that a female member of the House, Hon Olubunmi Adelugba be installed as the new Speaker of the House.
A source in the Assembly disclosed that the former governor put a call through to the Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Barrister Paul Omotoso to move in and ensure the installation of Hon Adelugba as the new Speaker of the sixth Assembly.
The source further said that some members of the Assembly kicked against the directive and advised the purveyor of the news to the Assembly to allow peace to reign.
The source further said that the majority of members of the Assembly vowed to resist any form of imposition in the process of selecting a new Speaker.
Hon. Adelugba reportedly contested primaries for
Ekiti South II Federal Constituency, House of Representatives seat under the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC) earlier in the year. She reportedly recorded no vote while her opponent, Hon Femi Bamisile pulled 160 votes.
