Nigeria’s Vice-President, Professor Yemi Osinbajo has said that he would be betraying Nigerians if he failed to contest for president.
Osinbajo stated this in Akure, the Ondo State capital when he visited Governor Oluwarotimi Akeredolu to express his intention to succeed President Muhammadu Buhari in May 2023.
Osinbajo disclosed that he decided to contest for the presidency because he had learnt a lot and made many contacts both within the country and at the international level.
He admitted that he was given responsibilities by President Buhari to run the affairs of the nation as an Acting President.
He eulogised Buhari as a worthy boss who trusted and dedicated power to him absolutely whenever he was not around. ” I have a boss who entrusted me with absolute power. Whenever he hands over power to me. Sometimes, I call him for important state issues, but he will tell me, ‘Yemi, do it the way you understand and the way it ought to be done. Don’t call me. You are the Acting Président” Osinbajo said.
The Vice-President disclosed that President Buhari only charged him to be fair and just while in charge.
He attributed his achievement as Vice-President to God and also wished God and party members supports his presidential bid. Promised good packages of appointments for party members when elected as president of Nigeria
He, therefore, said the nation needed a serious service to get it out of the doldrums.
According to the Vice-President, “It’s an opportunity to be called to public service. This is the most valuable thing we can add to our society. It’s a privilege to be called to serve.”
