BORN only about five years when the incumbent Speaker of the Yobe State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Ahmed Mirwa Lawan was first elected into the legislative chamber, 25-year-old Lawal Musa has caused an upset as he defeated the five-time elected lawmaker.
The young politician will now represent Nguru Outside Constituency, Yobe State on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
The Returning Officer of the election, Dr. Habib Muhammad, who announced the results said Musa, scored 6,648 votes to defeat Yobe’s Speaker of the All Progressives Congress (APC) who got 6,466 votes.
Rt. Hon Lawal has been in the House since 2003 when he was elected as a House member under the All Nigeria Peoples Party (ANPP).
Eighteen-Eleven Media recalls that Mr. Musa was some time ago arrested and detained over a Facebook post. When the young man regained freedom, he decided to engage the Speaker at the polls.
