- Nab Another Three Hijackers Of Dangote Trucks
THE law of retribution has caught up with five suspects in Anambra State, whose crimes bother on kidnapping and armed robbery.
The arrests, in two separate operations, involved two members of a notorious kidnapping syndicate and three highway robbers, whose stock-in-trade was to target Dangote trucks.
The kidnapping gang, terrorizing the Anam axis of Anambra West Local Government Area, had on 26 June 2023, abducted a man in Aguleri, Anambra State, and was dispossessed of his Mercedes Benz GLK SUV, even as the victim’s family paid a whopping N4.5 million to secure his release.
Nemesis caught up with the two suspects when, upon a rip-off, Police detectives swooped on a member of the gang, Chukwuebuka Esulo, from Ebonyi State, on 18 July while sourcing for a buyer for the black Mercedes Benz GLK SUV, marked BLF 746 EA.
According to a statement issued by the Anambra State Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Ikenga Tochukwu, the suspect confessed to being a member of the kidnap gang and disclosed that he was sent from their camp to dispose of the car.
On the order of the state Commissioner of Police, Aderemi Adeoye, the case was transferred to the anti-kidnapping unit of the Command.
The team went after other members of the gang and arrested 23-year-old Ejeka Ufuo, who came out from hiding with the intent of collecting the proceeds, on the belief that the vehicle had been sold.
“Efforts are ongoing to round up other members of the gang and recover their weapons“, the PPRO said, adding that the CP has commended all personnel involved in the breakthrough and urged them to redouble their effort until the menace of kidnapping is eradicated in the state.
In a related development, the Command busted a syndicate that specialized in the hijacking of Dangote trailers and arrested three members of the gang.
According to the PPRO, the detectives acted on a tip-off, stormed the syndicate’s hideout at Nnokwa and arrested the three suspects while vandalizing two trailers.
The vandalized head of one of the trailers, the Command spokesman said, was recovered, while the whereabouts of the other was yet to be ascertained.
“Suspects were taken into custody for interrogation. The Commissioner of Police, CP Aderemi Adeoye, has directed the state CID Awka to take over the case for comprehensive investigation and prosecution of anyone indicted in the crime”, the statement added.
