CHIEF Christopher Oladipo Ogunbajo died a few weeks before his centenary birthday.
Born on 14 December 1923, Chief Ogunbanjo was a prominent and iconic corporate lawyer and philanthropist from Ogun State. He was an early advocate of domiciliary accounts in Nigeria which later came into existence through the promulgation of the Foreign Currency Decree 18 of 1985.
In the late 1960s, he was among the group of businessmen who supported local equity participation in foreign firms operating in Nigeria.
He was a Merit Awardee of the Ijebu-Ode Development Association.
Reacting to the development, Otunba Gbenga Daniel, the senator representing Ogun East Senatorial District in the National Assembly, said: “With the passage of Chief Christopher Oladipo Ogunbanjo, Nigeria may have lost one of her legends in the corporate world, the legal profession, and a community builder. Still, the country can not be rid of his good deeds in a hurry.
“Dr Chris Ogunbanjo etched his noble deeds with a permanent ink of philanthropy and engraved himself in the hearts of many so that his memory would be difficult to erase.
“He was a role model to many of us and we had so much to learn from the Olotu of Ijebuland and Lerinja of Egbaland.
“I can only pray for his permanent repose to find favour and compassion with his maker; I wish his family the strength to bear this passage at this period.”
