RWANDA Football Association Wednesday confirmed the appointment of German tactician Torsten Frank Spittler as the new head coach of the Rwanda national football team, Amavubi.
Spittler succeeds Spanish gaffer Carlos Alos Ferrer who resigned from his duties in August to take up the Belarusian national team job.
He agreed to coach the team on a one-year deal.
“FERWAFA is pleased to announce that Mr Torsten Spittler Frank has been appointed as the new head coach of men’s Rwanda national team,” the federation said in a statement released on Wednesday.
Spittler’s immediate assignment will be the 2026 World Cup double header against Zimbabwe and South Africa which are both due in November.
Torsten Frank Spittler was born on the 7th of November 1962 in Germany.
He was the Perak FA manager for the 2000 season. He has also worked as a coach and technical director for football in various countries including Nepal, Yemen, Sierra Leone, India and Canada in conjunction with the German Foreign Office, German Football Association (DFB) and Bavarian Football Association (BFV). From 2006 to 2007, he was head coach of the Canadian side Okanagan Challenge of the Pacific Coast Soccer League after previously working in Canada as a touring coach for the Alberta Soccer Association in 1999.
He was named Talent Development and Performance Expert for the Oman Football Association in October 2015.
On 1 October 2016, Spittler became the head coach of the Bhutan national football team before being called up to manage the Amavubi.
