TWENTY-SEVEN members of the Rivers State House of Assembly have this morning defected from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC).
The affected lawmakers, who made their decision known during the sitting of a faction of the Assembly this morning, attributed their action to alleged division within the PDP. The lawmakers sat under tight security mounted at the entrance of the Assembly complex along Moscow Road in Port Harcourt.
This may not be unconnected to the unending political tension in the state as the House moved last month to remove Gov Fubara.
The affected lawmakers are said to be the ones loyal to the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike.
A smouldering leadership tussle between the incumbent governor of the state, Mr Simi Fubara and the current Mr Wike came to the open in October as a faction of the Assembly believed to be loyal to Wike moved to impeach the governor.
