THE Lagos State Civil Service Commission has ratified the termination of the appointment of five officials of the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) for allegedly being involved in corruption acts.
In the same vein, two others were reprimanded for absenting themselves from their duty posts, while the case of 14 others is undergoing additional administrative review.
The Personnel Management Board of the Agency had, at its meeting on Tuesday, 19 August, recommended the disciplinary actions against the officers, and forwarded the same to the Civil Service Commission (CSC) following which, letters were on Friday, 8 December issued to the affected personnel.
The Agency’s spokesperson, Adebayo Taofiq, in a press release, confirmed the development, stating that, “While five LASTMA officials indicted for corruption received letters of termination of appointment, the remaining two received letters of reprimand, for absence from duty posts without leave”.
According to Adebayo, the Acting General Manager of LASTMA, Bakare-Oki Olalekan, stated that the action taken was in line with the extant rules as guided by the Lagos State Civil Service Rules and Regulations.
Bakare-Oki maintained that the Agency would only get better if and when members of the public shared their experiences, including positive ones, and provided evidence, where applicable, of perceived misdemeanours.
He implored road users in Lagos State to always comply with the state’s traffic law so as not to run afoul of it as, according to him, it attracts penalties.
“This is necessary for all of us to promote a greater Lagos, for the benefit of all, and for the realisation of Governor Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu’s objectives in the First Pillar of the THEMES, plus development agenda (Traffic Management and Transportation)”, the Acting GM said.
Continuing, he said,” We wish to add by informing well-meaning and concerned Lagos residents and the motoring public that we have various windows through which complaints can be channelled for prompt action – 08100565860, 08129928515, 08129928503, (08129928597 WhatsApp only) and Provost on 08129928490″.
He assured that such complaints shall be investigated dispassionately with dispatch.
While enjoining every motoring public to abide by the Lagos State Transportation Sector Reform Law 2018, Bakare-Oki disclosed that cases against the remaining 14 indicted officials of the Agency were undergoing additional administrative review.
