TECHNICAL Adviser of Shooting Stars Sports Club (3SC) of Ibadan, Gbenga Ogunbote, said the 1-0 victory recorded over Bayelsa United was a big relief for his team.
Speaking after the tension-soaked Matchday 17 tie, the sweat merchant expressed happiness that the team was able to end its winless streak after going six matches without a win.
“I think it’s a big relief for the team. Truth be said, having gone through six games without a win, definitely, you would expect that the confidence level would have dropped.
“The confidence level dropped but all we just wanted was to come back to winning ways and we have been able to get that”, said the gaffer.
The former Rangers International and Sunshine Stars tactician explained why the team struggled against the visitors in Sunday’s game.
“Like I said, we have played six games without a win, psychologically, everybody would have been down, and the confidence level would have dropped.
“We were just trying to see how we can manage the situation, the good thing was that we had a goal and would have gotten the second even though we didn’t do too well like we used to do”, added the 3SC sweat merchant.
Coach Ogunbote also explained that the changes made in the lineup was to bring fresh legs into the fray due to the fact that some of the regulars needed rest.
On the chances of his team achieving the set goal this season, the highly respected tactician expressed optimism that the goal was still achievable.
“We have played 16 games so far, we have one outstanding game and we still have about 22 games to determine that, that’s quite a lot, I think it is still realistic”, added the coach who hinted that he would beef up the squad with few fresh legs during the mid-season.
