A pro-democracy activist and chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Hon. Gabriel Bravo Oluohu (JP), has appealed to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to ‘temper justice with mercy’ on the issues surrounding the suspended Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation, Dr Betta Edu.
In a press statement issued on Friday in Abuja, Gabriel Bravo Oluohu, who was at various times Supervisory Councillor in Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC), said though the President’s swift action by activating investigation into the alleged corrupt activities of the suspended Minister was applauded by many Nigerians, there was however the need for the President to take a second look at the case and yield to the popular demand for her reinstatement.
Hear him: “Mr President, please temper justice with mercy for the sake of the critical role Dr Betta Edu has played as a dedicated, performing, intelligent and competent Minister at this critical time of your administration.
“This call became necessary because she has not been found wanting by any investigation panel and also because the nation could not afford to keep throwing her best under the bus or ostracise them from the governance structure of the country at this challenging time”, Bravo said.
Bravo, who reasoned that Dr Edu has not been indicted by any commission, panel or investigative body at the moment despite the case being the most talked-about in the country, noted that she is still innocent until proven otherwise.
The pro-democracy activist said that if any of such had happened, it would have been in the public domain.
He called on President Tinubu to allow the Cross State-born medical doctor-turned-politician to continue her work at the ministry and not be carried away by those he claims are “making noise” by calling for her punishment without having facts and figures to back up their claim of her alleged corrupt activity, particularly as there is no report indicting the suspended minister.
While describing the suspended minister as one of Tinubu’s cabinet’s first eleven, Bravo likened the current situation to a football scenario where no good manager could afford to bench its best players in a very crucial match and at the same time saying it will not augur well for the country to bring her down at this challenging time.
