THE Channel Tunnel, known as the Eurotunnel, is the longest underwater tunnel in the world, connecting England and France 50.5 kilometres long.
Construction on this ambitious project began in 1988 and was inaugurated on 6 May 1994.
The tunnel, 50 kilometres long and 45 meters wide, is owned by Getlink.
In addition to its length, the tunnel is notable for its depth, reaching up to 75 meters below the sea bed at its lowest point.
This tunnel has revolutionised transport, allowing for the passage of high-speed trains carrying both passengers and vehicles, facilitating trade and tourism between the United Kingdom and the European continent.
The Eurotunnel also features advanced safety and ventilation systems to ensure a safe and comfortable journey for all its users.
