THE Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has distanced itself from the 27th March 2024 National Convention of the Labour Party (LP) held by Julius Abure-led National Working Committee at Nnewi, Anambra State.
The electoral umpire was reacting to an application for the certified true copy of the document of LP, signed by the Ag Secretary to the Commission, Haliru Aminu, and dated 18 July,
While confirming receipt of the application, INEC categorically said it did not monitor the LP convention of 27th March 2024 and cannot therefore report on the exercise.
The Commission had rejected the outcome of the convention, citing contraventions to the Labour Party Constitution, the Electoral Act 2022, and INEC Guidelines and Regulations for Political Parties 2022.
According to the Commission, “(We) received your request for a Certified True Copy (CTC) of the monitored report of the Labour Party Convention at Nnewi, Anambra State held on the 27th day of March 2024, and the Labour Party Constitution”.
“The Certified True Copy of the Labour Party Constitution has been forwarded to your firm earlier.
“Regrettably the Commission did not monitor the Labour Party Convention of 27th March 2024 and cannot therefore report on the convention,” it said.
