PRESIDENT Bola Ahmed Tinubu has appointed Dunoma Ahmed as the new Permanent Secretary of the Federal Ministry of Foreign Affairs. He replaces Ibrahim Lamuwa, who is currently facing allegations of sexual harassment from female subordinates.
This decision is contained in a statement released by the ministry on Thursday.
According to the statement, Ahmed officially began his duties on 23 July 2024.
“Born on 15 October 1968, in Maiduguri, Borno State, Dr. Ahmed boasts an impressive educational background and a distinguished career. He has held various roles in public organisations and the federal civil service, most recently serving as the immediate past Permanent Secretary of the Federal Ministry of Youth Development,” the statement noted.
In June, Simisola Fajemirokun Ajayi, a married aide to Yusuf Tuggar, the Minister of Foreign Affairs, filed a complaint of sexual harassment against Lamuwa. She alleged that he inappropriately touched her and repeatedly invited her to his hotel room.
In a letter to President Tinubu last month, several ministry officers indicated that Ajayi’s allegations were not isolated incidents. They claimed that accusations of sexual harassment against Lamuwa have been a persistent issue throughout his public service career.
Tuggar has requested that Folasade Yemi-Esan, the Head of Service of the Federation, address the matter appropriately.
