NIGERIA’S female basketball team, D’Tigress have been drawn against the United States in the quarter-finals.
Nigeria is scheduled to face the US, the defending champions, on 7 August at 7 9:30 pm.
The game will be the second time both nations will face each other at the Olympic Games basketball tournament. At the Tokyo Olympics, D’Tigress lost to the Americans by 9 points in their opening group game.
In February this year in Antwerp, Belgium, the USA lockdown a hurriedly assembled D’Tigress of Nigeria 100-46 in the Olympic Games qualifiers tournament.
Earlier on Sunday in Group B, Nigeria defeated Canada 79-70 to advance into the last eight.
In another game played the same day, the United States beat Germany 87-68 in C, while Belgium defeated Japan 85-58 also in Group C.
Also, Serbia will meet Australia in the first quarter-finals match, Spain confronts Belgium while host France takes on Germany before the clash between the USA and Nigeria.
Australia secured the last quarter-final slot at the ongoing women’s basketball tournament at the Paris Olympic Games.
Thanks to their 79-72 win over host France on Sunday in the last Group B encounter.
Opal, as the Australian ladies are called, took the first quarter 19-17 but the French won the second quarter in the bag 15-17 to go into the break at 34-34.
After the break, the world number 3 increased their margin by taking to the third quarter 25-16, while France finished the game 22-20. The win guaranteed Australia the top spot in Group B.
