Enyimba Advance To CAF Confederation Cup Group Stage, Rangers Crash Out Of CAF Champions League
ENYIMBA International of Aba had to go through the lottery of a penalty shoot-out to get into the Group stage of the CAF Confederation Cup on Sunday in Uyo after playing a barren draw with visiting Etoile Filante of Burkina Faso.
The first leg played about a week ago also ended goalless, leading to a penalty shoot-out as a tiebreaker. Enyimba won 3-2 on penalties.
Meanwhile, Rangers International FC of Enugu were not as lucky as their journey in the CAF Champions League came to an abrupt end.
The Flying Antelope, as Rangers International are fondly called, were thrown out on Sunday in the second round of the competition by Sagrada Esperanca of Angola.
Rangers went down 3-1 in the return leg second-round game to leave the biggest club competition in Africa 3-2 on aggregate, having won the first leg in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State 1-0.
Remo Stars were kicked out in the first round of the CAF Champions League, just as El Kanemi Warriors FC were shown the exit door in the first round of the CAF Confederation Cup in the first round too.
