OPERATIVES of the Imo State Police Command have dismantled a kidnapping and organ harvesting syndicate that had been operating along Douglas Road, Owerri.
The criminal gang, infamous for employing the “One-Chance” tactic to abduct unsuspecting victims, was taken down on 10 October 2024.
Among the suspects arrested was 38-year-old Justine Emmanuel from Amimo, Ikeduru Local Government Area. Meanwhile, a 19-year-old female victim narrowly escaped a gruesome fate and was rescued by the police operatives.
The operation unfolded when officers on routine patrol spotted suspicious activity around a blue and white bus. Acting swiftly, they intercepted the vehicle, discovering that the criminals were in the process of abducting the young woman, intending to transport her to a remote location to possibly murder her and harvest her organs for illegal sale.
In a moment of sheer terror, the victim managed to jump from the moving bus, and the police promptly intervened to ensure her safety. A chase ensued, but while some suspects fled into the nearby bush, Justine Emmanuel was captured at the scene.
Authorities have since launched a manhunt for the remaining members of the syndicate and are conducting a detailed investigation to uncover the full scope of their criminal activities.
