THE Committee, Resolution and Recommendation on the strategic omission of Favour Ofili from the 100m race at the 2024 Paris Olympic Games have awarded the sum of Eight Million Naira (N8,000,000), equivalent of $5,000 to Favour Ofili following the omission of her name from the 100m event.
Whilst no one was indicted directly for this unfair treatment of Ofili, two Athletics Federation of Nigeria officials were recommended for punishment.
1. Mrs Rita Mosindi – Secretary General of AFN for negligence of duty
2. Samuel Onikeku – Technical Director of AFN, for poor judgement by not reporting nor acting on information about the non-registration of his athlete when he got a “hint” of the “rumour” about her omission.
Eighteen-Eleven Media reports that the now-defunct Federal Ministry of Sports Development convened the Paris 2024 Olympic and Paralympic Post Games Audit and Review meeting for Tuesday, 24th September 2024.
In its quest to investigate various negative exposures to the country during the 2024 Paris Olympic and Paralympic Games, the Ministry has constituted a 7-member committee to investigate such incidents.
The committee was inaugurated on Wednesday, 25th September 2024 at the Media Centre, MKO Abiola Stadium Package A, Abuja.
Ms Favour Ofili could not compete in the women’s 100m event despite qualifying for it at the recently concluded Paris Summer Olympic Games. Neither the Athletics Federation of Nigeria (AFN) nor the Nigeria Olympic Committee (NOC) took responsibility for the hiatus.
