Herdsmen on Monday, 27th, June 2022 reportedly hacked to death a middle-aged man simply identified as Kamarudeen mistakenly for a commercial bus conductor In Mowo, Badagry area of Lagos State.

It was gathered that an accident occurred between an LT bus and herds of cattle on the highway.
The LT bus was said to have hit one of the cattle leading to its death. However, in retaliation, the herders reportedly attacked the occupants of the vehicle including the driver and conductor. The attack was said to have resulted in the death of a middle-aged man whose identity is yet to be confirmed at press time. Eyewitnesses say it took the intervention of Lagos State Neighborhood and Safety Corps personnel at the scene to avert a possible tribal/ communal clash between the host community and Fulani herdsmen.

The Lagos State Police Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) SP Benjamin Hundeyin while confirming the incident said that the alleged herdsmen were arrested and currently undergoing investigation.
SP Hundeyin in a tweet said: “The Lagos State Police Command has confirmed the arrest of two herdsmen who were responsible for the death of a man early Monday morning in Age Mowo, Badagry”.
SP Hundeyin clarified that the cattle herders mistook a man for the bus conductor of the vehicle which led to his death.
Hundeyin in a series of tweets on his verified Twitter account said: “A commercial vehicle ran into two cows this morning at Age Mowo, Badagry, killing one of the cows. The two cattle herders attacked someone they mistook for the vehicle conductor, resulting in his death. Angry residents blocked the highway in protest of the killing.
“The DPO, Morogbo Division, assisted by soldiers from 243 Recce Battalion, Badagry successfully cleared the obstruction. Normalcy has since returned to the area. It is entirely false that the victim was turned back when he sought refuge in the police station.
He did not make it off the accident scene, let alone reach the station. Meanwhile, the two herders have been arrested. Investigation is ongoing. Updates will be provided subsequently.
