NIGERIA’s hope of playing in the finals of the 2025 Afrobasket in Angola later this year was rekindled yesterday (Saturday) in Tripoli, Libya, the venue of the last window of the qualifiers with a hard-fought win over Uganda in Group B.
Nigeria came from behind to hit the East Africans 87-67 points, to record their second win in the final qualifiers after they defeated Libya on Friday night.
The Ugandans led at halftime 34-28 after taking the first two quarters 16-14 and 18-14.
The third and final quarters belong to D’Tigers 27-25 and 32-8 to win 87-67.
Three players, Caleb Agada, Ike Nwamu and Talib Zanna recorded double figures with Agada on 20, Nwamu 18 and Zanna 11.
Nigeria will step out against group lead Cape Verde in a decide-your-destiny encounter on Sunday (today). A win over Cape Verde guarantees Nigeria’s presence in the finals in Angola in August. The match is expected to be played at 5 pm Nigerian time.
