The Ogun State Police Command has arrested two middle-aged men on allegation of theft of a Sallah ram.
Adetunji Alagbe and Opeyemi Ogunlokun were arrested following a distress call made to Ogijo Police Division.
Eighteen-Eleven Media gathered that one Sodiq Abolore had bought the said ram to enable him to celebrate the weekend Ileya festival with his friends and family members.
However, the ram bought for N120,000 suddenly grew wings a few hours after the owner went to bed on 5th July 2022.
Meanwhile, as it is instinctive for everyone to safeguard their cherished belongings, Sodiq had latched the ram behind his window at his Ogijo residence in Ogun State, where he kept vigil on it for fear of the unknown.
But, like the Biblical parable of the wheat and tares, where enemies took advantage of the farmer’s honouring the call of nature and went to sleep, during which the wicked ones planted the weeds, the wicked ones visited Sodiq in the same manner.
He had gone to bed, probably with just one eye closed and when at about 3:00 am on 5th July 2022, a gang of three able-bodied young men sneaked into the compound and carefully untied the ram.
It, however, did not take him time to notice it, as his mind was on the treasured ram.
Not minding whatever risk that could be associated with chasing marauders, particularly in the dark, Sodiq, at a speed of light, ran out of his apartment in search of his missing ram, only to see the thieves trying to lift it into a waiting Mazda car, and he raised an alarm that awakened neighbours, resorting to a chase of the thieves.
In the end, one of them escaped while the two others were arrested.
Meanwhile, the state Commissioner of Police, CP Lanre Bankole, has ordered an in-depth investigation into the case, with a view to charging the suspects to court as soon as possible.
