RWANDA has announced its first oil discovery in Lake Kivu, a natural border with the Democratic Republic of Congo.
The discovery includes 13 reservoirs with hydrocarbons, identified through 2D seismic surveys.
The 13 oil reservoirs are also known to have deposits of 3Ts (tin, tungsten, and tantalum), gold, lithium, beryl, rare earth minerals, and gemstones.
The Rwanda Mines, Petroleum and Gas Board (RMB) confirmed the presence of oil deposits in Lake Kivu.
The discovery is seen as a promising frontier for hydrocarbon resources in the Great Lakes region, African Report Files gathered.
