…Says: I Will Retire From Politics After My Two Terms In Office
ABIA State governor, Alex Otti, has debunked rumours that he would be joining some of his erstwhile colleagues in the Senate after his governorship tenure, arguing that such rumours are lies and should never be peddled.
The governor was speaking during a reception held in his honour by the Anambra Development Union Association, Aba branch. He used the occasion to open up on his future political career, saying he would retire on completion of his two terms as governor.
He said he intends to retire from active politics, holding the opinion that the younger generation should be given a chance to take charge of the country’s administrative strides while already established politicians step aside for new leadership to flow, highlighting the current trend of youth participation in politics in the country.
The governor also revealed his plans to revisit the case of 154 civil servants, including teachers, who were dismissed from service in 2011 by the Theodore Orji administration.
He ordered the Head of Civil Service to begin a review of the sacked employees instantly to find a path for resolution while condemning their dismissal from service, which is alleged to have been based on state of origin, saying it is both unjust and illegal.
Two members of the Abia State House of Assembly, Stephen Ucheonye and Obiora Nwakpadolo, praised the governor for his leadership impact, which prompted the organisation of the event in his honour.
Meanwhile, Governor Alex Otti promised to continue his commitment to justice and equitable leadership while correcting the mistakes of past administrations.
Otti Cancels Ex-Governor Orji’s ‘Deportation Of Chalk’—Disengaged Teachers To Be Recalled 13 Years After
Back in 2011, under the then Governor Theodore Orji, 154 non-Abia indigenes— mostly teachers—were unceremoniously sacked in what many called the “Igbo-From-Another-Mother Purge.” The chalk-wielding victims from Anambra, Imo, and other Southeast states were told, “Go home, you’re not from here — even if you’ve lived here all your life!”
Otti described the 2011 action as “illegal,” declaring that “if you live here, you’re from here.” And just like that, history gets an eraser!
Fast-forward to the 5th of April 2025, Governor Otti played the role of “Father Christmas with a chalkboard,” announcing plans to re-engage those still under 65 on a contract basis and compensate retirees.
