The Osun State governor-elect, Senator Ademola Adeleke has revealed that loyalists of the Minister of Interior Rauf Aregbesola worked for his victory in the just concluded governorship election.

Recall that the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate was on Sunday, 17 July 2022, declared the winner of the governorship election in the state, defeating the incumbent governor, Gboyega Oyetola of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

There was an insinuation that Aregbesola, a former governor of the state, who had a face-off with the APC presidential candidate Bola Tinubu as well as the incumbent governor was behind Adeleke’s victory.

Meanwhile, speaking with Channels TV on Monday night, 18 July 2022, Adeleke said he never spoke with Aregbesola prior to the poll, but his allies joined forces with him to defeat the incumbent governor, who was the candidate of the ruling APC.

“Throughout the campaign, I didn’t talk to Aregbe but the head of his group joined me and I was happy! This added to my victory. It was my head (sic) that made them fight. I benefited from their crisis.

“Oyetola lawyer Kolapo Alimi, who defended Oyetola with all passion, is in the Aregbe TOP group, approached me and I discovered he is an asset. I embraced him. I don’t know, maybe his former boss, Aregbe gave him the permission but you have to know that he is an elder and human being who could decide what to do.

“It is my head (sic) that fought for me. I enjoyed their division.”
