A purported commercial motorcyclist, who allegedly conspired with three others to gang rape a teenager in Ogun State has been apprehended.
According to Ogun State Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), SP Abimbola Oyeyemi, an 18-year-old victim (name withheld) at about 8:00 am on Tuesday, 30 August 2022 boarded a commercial motorcycle at the MRI Company area intending to alight at Ogijo bus stop.
Along the line, the evil-minded rider picked another male passenger, with her not having any inkling of what was about to happen.
But when the rider veered off her route, she protested, an action that was met with a stern warning from the supposed male passenger, who cautioned her to cooperate or lose her life.
Like a cow that was being led to the slaughter slab, the victim, for fear of being killed, took to fate and was taken into a room where two other men were already on standby.
On getting to the room, the foursome forcefully took turns on her and thereafter, released her.
The teenage girl however lodged a complaint at the Ogijo Police Division following the assault.
SP Oyeyemi in a statement said; “Upon the report, the DPO, CSP Onatufe Umoh, detailed his detectives to the scene where two of the suspects were apprehended while their other accomplices escaped”.
He gave the names of the arrested alleged culprits as Emmanuel Thompson and Joshua Godwin
The PPRO added that the two arrested suspects have confessed to committing the crime.
In his reaction, the state Commissioner of Police, CP Lanre Bankole, has ordered the transfer of the suspects to the State Criminal Investigation Departments for further investigation and diligent prosecution.
The CP also directed that the two fleeing members of the gang be hunted for and brought to book.
