A student of the Ignatius Ajuru University of Education, Rivers State who was sacked from her part-time hotel job because she attended Peter Obi, the presidential candidate of Labour Party (LP) rally held last weekend in Port Harcourt has been offered automatic employment as well as a scholarship.
The internet was earlier in the week awash with stories of her sacking by her employer, who is said to be sympathetic to a rival presidential candidate, following her participation in the “Two Million Man March for Peter Obi” held last Saturday in the Garden City.
However, the General Overseer of Port Harcourt, Rivers State-based Omega Power Ministries (OPM) Apostle Chibuzor Chinyere has offered the young undergraduate automatic employment but also doubled her wage from Twenty Thousand Naira (N20,000.00) to Forty Thousand Naira (N40,000.00).
The munificent clergyman who in June stepped in to comfort family members of the slain student of Shehu Shagari College of Education, Sokoto by relocating them and providing them with means of livelihood, also offered the young undergraduate scholarship till she graduate from the Ignatius Ajuru University of Education.
Apostle Chibuzor, according to the release, said his decision followed a discussion he had with the young lady.
“I just finished interviewing her on the phone. Number one: She was off duty when she went for the Port Harcourt rally.
“Number two: She works in a hotel in Port Harcourt which I don’t want to mention.
“Number three: She is also a student of Ignatius Ajuru University of Education and it’s from the work and little salary she earns that she trains herself in school.
“After interviewing her, I found out she is gifted and her education can not be frustrated.
So starting from today 1 September 2022, she does not need to look for school fees for Ajuru university, because I have added her name to OPM local university scholarship till graduation.
“Number two: The hotel she was working at was paying her N20,000.00. I have given her automatic employment to resume immediately in my water factory with double her former salary from N20,000.00 to N40,000.00.
Eighteen-Eleven Media recalls that only recently the clergyman made public an arrangement toward the establishment of a tuition-free university.
The university to be called OPM Free University, according to Apostle Chinyere, will be run 100 per cent free of charge and it will be open to both Muslims and Christians from other churches.
The man of God, who is popular for his philanthropic gestures, said dedicated OPM members, as against visiting members, will have a 90 per cent slot, while 10 per cent shall be reserved for Muslims and other denominations.
Apostle Chinyere further disclosed that he has dispatched a professor with funds to Abuja to seek registration and approval for the university.
Apostle Chinyere also said that the university will be patterned just the same way as its twenty free schools, two free world-class hospitals, one multi-skill acquisition centre and eighteen free estates, among others.
