AN unidentified officer of the Department of State Security (DSS) who narrowly escaped being lynched by angry traders was arrested by men of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command for allegedly firing a gunshot at a tailor in Garki market in Abuja.
Our correspondent reports that a lady had reportedly invited the DSS personnel to arrest her tailor at the market for failing to deliver her clothes as promised.
The tailor’s failure to deliver the job and his alleged nonchalant attitude after collecting money for the job raised emotions, and the DSS officer allegedly fired a shot at the tailor which hit the tailor. on the leg. Another lady who was reportedly sitting in her shop was hit in the face by a stray bullet fired by the DSS men.
The ensuing pandemonium disrupted business activities leading to a convergence of traders in the market to the scene. The resultant anger nearly led to the lynching of the secret police officer. The victims were later rushed to the hospital for treatment.
Meanwhile, a timely intervention by FCT Police Command reportedly saved the DSS officer from being lynched. Sources say the traders were about to lynch the officers when men of the police force stepped in and rescued him.
Garki traders not satisfied with the police intervention, wanted instant jungle justice, as they angrily stormed the police post and demanded for the DSS officer to be released. In the course of expressing their anger, the traders destroyed the Garki Market Police Post.
The DSS, in its reaction to the incident via a statement by its spokesperson, Peter Ifunanya, said an investigation into the incident has commenced.
