THE interim Coach of the three-time African champions, the Super Eagles of Nigeria, Augustine Eguavoen, has named an entirely foreign-based 23-man list for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying home-and-away match against Libya.
Eguavoen named 3 goalkeepers, 7 defenders, 6 midfielders and 7 attackers led by outstanding and impressive balloon D’or nominee Ademola Lookman of Atalanta FC.
William Ekong will be captaining the team with new Sevilla forward Kelechi Iheanacho also listed.
It is a recalls for Gabriel Osho and Chidera Ejuke after impressive starts In France and Spain respectively, as well as first time call-ups for Getafe’s Chrisantus Uche, Varnamo’s Jonathan Rasheed and Ajax’s Chuba Akpom.
Current Africa Footballer of the Year, Victor Osimhen, will be missing in action at the Godswill Akpabio Stadium due to injury with Chidera Ejuke filling in.
Nigeria are yet to lose to Libya in history, winning 3 out of their four outings and drawing once.
The Super Eagles will host the Mediterranean Knights at the Godswill Akpabio Stadium in Uyo on Friday, 11th October, before flying to Benghazi to take on the Knights at the Martyrs of Benina Stadium, 19 kilometres away from Benghazi on Tuesday, 15th October.
All the players are expected to report to Uyo on Monday, 7th October.
