REMO Stars head coach Daniel Ogunmodede and Rangers coach Fidelis Ilechukwu have both been named as assistants to Super Eagles interim coach Austin Eguavoen for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nation (AFCON) qualifiers against Benin Republic and Rwanda.
The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) Technical Director will now take charge of the team after German tactician Bruno Labbadia turned down a purported appointment by the NFF following a disagreement over tax payment
According to a statement attributed to NFF President Ibrahim Musa Gusau, the federation will not pay Labbadia’s tax which is assessed at about 40 percent of the total package.
NFF and Labbadia agreed on a salary structure…only for the latter to come up with the issue of tax.
Egueavoen will now take charge and possibly help Nigeria beat Benin Republic and Rwanda. Nigeria square up against Benin Republic on 7 September and Rwanda on 10 September.
