The Nigeria Customs Service Federal Operations Unit, Zone ‘A’, has arraigned two suspects identified as Felarun Oluwasegun and Fakorede Jelili in a Federal High Court, Abeokuta.
They were arraigned on a three-count charge of assault on Customs officers, Illegal Importation of 37 bags of foreign parboiled rice and Illegal possession of same.
The defendants pleaded not guilty and moved their bail application, but counsel to the Nigeria Customs Service, Zone ‘A’, Vivian Aigbadon opposed the application.
Speaking with newsmen, Vivian Aigbadon said “Their bail application was moved, we moved our counter, opposing the application and it was adjourned for ruling on the 30th of May, and they have been remanded at a correctional centre”.
Meanwhile, Ismail Shuaibu, Jimoh Yakubu and Abdullahi Muazu who were arraigned on a two-count charge a week ago, are still at a correctional centre, as their bail applications were also opposed.
“We opposed their bail applications because they are members of a syndicate and they have other members that are at large. So releasing them may jeopardize the investigations that are still ongoing”, she said.
“The application has been reserved for ruling on the 24th of May, 2023“, she added.
