The management of Akwa United Football Club has congratulated six of its players following their invitation by the head coach of the home-based Super Eagles team Salisu Yusuf for the upcoming African Nations Championship qualifiers against Ghana later this month.

The six invited players are; first-choice goalkeeper Adewale Adeyinka, defenders Samson Gbadebo and Christopher Nwaeze, midfielders Bello Babatunde and Adam Yakubu as well as winger Samuel Amadi.

The six players were selected alongside 29 other home-based players for the two-legged qualifiers against bitter rivals Ghana in which the overall winner will qualify for the 2023 CHAN tournament in Algeria early next year.

The Team Manager of the club Sir Emmanuel Udoh congratulated the invited players and encouraged them to put in their best for the country during the qualifiers while being good ambassadors of the club.

“We wish to congratulate our worthy ambassadors on their invitation to the national team for the two-legged qualifiers. We are proud that six of our best players have been selected to represent our great country.

“Their invitation to the national camp is well deserved, having distinguished themselves in the Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) in the last two seasons and we strongly believe that their contributions will guarantee our national team success in the qualifiers.

“As players of Akwa United, we encourage them to go all out and wear the green and white of this great country with pride while flying higher the flag of Akwa United Football Club”, Sir Udoh prayed.

The 35 players invited by coach Yusuf include; four (4) goalkeepers, ten (10) defenders, eleven (11) midfielders and ten (10) strikers are to report to the team’s camp at the Bolton White Apartments in Abuja on or before Wednesday 10th August 2022.

The first leg of the qualifier will take place in Ghana on Sunday 28th August before the return leg is billed for M.K.O Abiola Stadium in Abuja on Saturday 3rd September 2022.
