ALGERIA came back twice from behind to claim a 2-2 draw against Burkina Faso in the second round of the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) group stage earlier today.
The result keeps their faint hopes alive for a spot in the Round of 16.
Mohamed Konate broke the deadlock for Burkina Faso with a goal just one minute before halftime but Baghdad Bounedjah netted the equalizer for Algeria in the 51st minute.
However, Bertrand Traore restored Burkina Faso’s advantage by converting a penalty kick in the 70th minute.
Just as hope seemed to dwindle for Algeria, Bounedjah came to the rescue during injury time, finding the back of the net once again.
His late equalizer ensured that Algeria’s chances of progressing to the Round of 16 remained alive.
With four points, Burkina Faso currently leads Group D, while Algeria sits in second place with two points.
