THE Association of Local Governments of Nigeria (ALGON) has officially recognized the reinstated All Progressives Congress (APC) council chairmen and councillors in Osun State as legally elected officials.
This follows a Court of Appeal ruling on 10 February 2025, which nullified the local government election conducted under the administration of Governor Ademola Adeleke.
In a letter addressed to the Osun ALGON Chairman, Hon. Samuel Idowu Abiodun, the national leadership of the association reaffirmed its commitment to upholding the rule of law and condemned the political unrest that has trailed the judgment.
ALGON also decried the destruction of lives and properties, including the reported death of Hon. Abbas, a member of the association. “We extend our condolences and pray against such occurrences,” the letter stated.
It further emphasized that ALGON, as a law-abiding association, will abide by the Court of Appeal’s decision reinstating the APC-backed chairmen as the legitimate officeholders. Additionally, ALGON leadership pledged to collaborate with the National Union of Local Government Employees (NULGE) to ensure that local government workers in Osun State resume their lawful duties without hindrance.
