POLITICIAN and publisher of Sahara Reporters, an online news platform, Mr Omoyele Sowore has come down hard on the Labour Party (LP) 2023 presidential candidate, Mr Peter Obi, for reported appeasement of Chief Afe Babalola (SAN, the nominal complainant in two criminal defamation suits pending against writer and rights activist, Dele Farotimi before two courts in Ado Ekiti, the Ekiti State capital.
Eighteen-Eleven Media reports that the former Anambra State governor on Monday visited the senior lawyer in his office and later equally visited Mr Farotimi in custody also in Ado Ekiti. There has been no official statement from any of the parties involved in the meetings, although sources claimed that the Leader of the Labour Party pleaded with the founder of Afe Babalola University to forgive Mr Farotimi.
However, Sowore, who took to his Facebook page on Monday night, said that Peter Obi and other unnamed persons who visited Babalola had committed an unspeakable and despicable injustice in the fight against judicial corruption in Nigeria.
Sowore wrote: “I strongly condemn those who went to “beg” Chief Afe Babalola today regarding the unjust detention and persecution of Dele Farotimi. The delegation led by Mr. Peter Obi has committed an unspeakable and despicable injustice in the fight against judicial corruption in our country.
“Obi’s actions feel like forcing Rosa Parks to return to the back of the bus (of racial injustice) during the Civil Rights era in the United States. The struggle continues!”
