JUSTICE Maimuna Abubakar of a Niger State High Court sitting in Minna has ordered the arrest of the Managing Director of Polaris Bank Plc, Omokayode Lawal and the Minna Branch Manager for contempt of court.
Justice Abubakar’s order is sequel to the allegation of tax evasion by the duo to the tune of One Billion Naira (N1,000,000,000.00)
Niger State Internal Revenue Service (NSIRS) had filed its case through Muhammad Ndayako against the defendants for their refusal to pay taxes worth more than N1 billion.
The duo were absent during the court proceeding on Wednesday.
The warrant of arrest against the Managing Director and the Minna branch manager was a result of their refusal to honour court summons to be present in court.
In her ruling, Justice Maimuna Abubakar ordered Police Officers to effect the arrest of the defendants.
She then adjourned the case to 13 December 2024 for the arraignment of the defendants.
