ERSTWHILE National Auditor of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and former Managing Director of National Inland Waterways Authority (NIWA), Chief George Moghalu, yesterday emerged the candidate of Labour Party (LP) for the Anambra State governorship election scheduled to take place on 8 November 2025.
Chief Moghalu defeated Chief John Chuma Nwosu in the party primaries held in Awka, the State capital. John Nwosu had earlier circulated a letter Friday night indicating that he would not participate in the intra-party poll but he fully participated in the primaries.
Moghalu polled a total of 573 delegate votes to defeat Nwosu, who scored a paltry 19 votes.
In his acceptance speech,, Moghalu declared that there was no victor and vanquish, even as he appealed to his fellow contestant and his supporters to join hands in ensuring that the party emerged victorious in the 8 November 2025 election.
He admitted that stepping into the ring with the incumbent, Chukwuma Charles Soludo, would not be a tea party. He however insisted defeating him was doable.
He assured the delegates and the people of Anambra State that he would not betray the confidence they bestowed in him.
Describing himself as the best man for the job, he also promised to restore the confidence the people of the state have lost in the present government.
According to him; “The election we are going into on 8 November, in the football palace is the Premier League which requires our first team. I appeal to the delegates to this primary to have the analogy in their minds before taking that decision today.
“You have to choose a candidate that you are going to use for the main election. Running an election against an incumbent is not a tea party but it is doable and for us to do it, we must put our best foot forward. This is what I am pleading with you to put your confidence in me and I will not betray your confidence if you check my track records.
“We are going into this election determined to change the narrative. The trajectory today is such that Anambra State needs a rejig. Our security and basic infrastructure have all failed and something has to be done.
“I must acknowledge that there are areas they have done very well, but there is a need for improvement and we will definitely make those improvements for the benefit of our people.
“The most important and critical thing that has taken flight in the politics of Anambra is that the people have lost confidence in their government and our mission is to restore the confidence of our people in their government and that can only be possible by offering them good governance. Restore your confidence in me and I will justify it and change the narrative.
“I appeal to you to trust me, check my political trajectory and you will see that I have never started a project I did not complete. I represent the light that will bring glory for the name of God Almighty and for the benefit of NdiAnambra,” he assured.
