PRESIDENTIAL candidate of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) Atiku Abubakar has reacted to the supreme court verdict.
Recall that the apex court dismissed the suit seeking the disqualification of President-elect Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Vice President-elect Kashim Shettima.
The court also granted the judicial seal of approval for their upcoming inauguration and participation in the 2023 presidential election.
Delivering the lead judgment, Justice Adamu Jauro asserted that the PDP’s suit lacked merit and was grossly deficient.
Consequently, the court imposed a fine of N2 million on the PDP for its interference in the internal affairs of the All Progressives Congress (APC) during the primary elections and the nomination of its candidates.
The Supreme Court maintained that the PDP had no jurisdiction to institute the suit and failed to provide any evidence to support its claims of Shettima’s double nomination.
The court described the PDP’s allegation of double nomination against the Vice president-elect as deliberate mischief intended to mislead the court and the nation.
The Supreme Court criticized the PDP for using social media to set a booby trap and blackmail the court, emphasizing that such actions were unwarranted and unfortunate.
In response to the court’s judgment, Daniel Bwala, an aide to Atiku and PDP presidential campaign spokesperson, expressed his disappointment on Twitter, posting a crying emoji.
It appears that the verdict left Atiku and his camp downcast.
Bwala resorted to reciting the national pledge as a way to mock the perceived compromised state of the judiciary.
In his tweet, he recited, “I pledge to Nigeria my country. To be faithful, loyal and honest. To serve Nigeria with all my strength. To defend her unity and uphold her honour and glory. So help me God,” accompanied by a crying emoji.
