BAYELSA STATE Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Chief Thompson Amule has debunked allegations of paltry payment to traditional rulers in the state.

Chief Amule was reacting to a viral video wherein HRM King Collins Aranka of Opokuma Kingdom was seen commenting on the monthly allowance paid to traditional rulers by the Bayelsa State Government.

HRM King Collins Aranka who spoke while receiving Chief Timipre Sylva, the governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) at his palace in Opokuma town, said that traditional rulers in the state were being paid N28,000 as a monthly allowance.

However, Chief Amule has described the assertion as “patently incorrect and false in every material sense”.

According to the Commissioner,  “The Bayelsa State Government pays First Class Kings in the status of King Aranka the sum of N650,000 monthly.

“Second Class Kings receive N120,000, Third Class Kings get N80,000 while Fourth Class Kings are paid the sum of N30,000 monthly. “

Chief  Amule further said that having made the clarification, the government would not join issues any further with the traditional institution over the unfortunate comments by HRM King Collins Aranka of Opokuma Kingdom.

Governorship election is slated to be held in the state -and two other states including Kogi and Imo – on the 11th of November 2023 and politicians have up their ante ahead of the poll.
