THE National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Sen. Abdullahi Adamu has reportedly resigned from his position.
Eighteen-Eleven Media gathered that the embattled former governor of Nasarrawa State tendered his resignation yesterday on the orders of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu. Interestingly, the National Secretary of the party, Iyiola Omisore also tendered his resignation minutes after.
It will be recalled that the former Chairman of the Nigeria Governors Forum had been in the eye of the storm shortly before and immediately after the presidential election held on 25th February 2023.
Prime Business Africa (PBA) on Sunday, 16th July said it received the unvarnished affirmation from reliable sources within the ruling party and the Presidency that Adamu “resigned a few minutes ago on the orders of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.”
However, the National Working Committee (NWC) meeting was scheduled for July 19th by the embattled former Chairman in order to prepare for the 18th and 19th July Caucus and National Executive Committee (NEC) sessions, respectively.
What becomes of the meeting originally planned for Monday is now a matter of conjecture.
Recall that the APC had scheduled the same NWC, Caucus and NEC meetings for last week but had to move it to the 17th, 18th and 19th of July owing to internal disagreements and intra-party politics.
According to information obtained by PBA on Sunday night, the NWC and the President’s meetings were postponed, purportedly at the request of Senator Adamu.
It was also gathered authoritatively that all members of the NWC “are on the same page” regarding the compulsory resignation of the National Chairman and his Secretary, Omisore.
The NWC members are also said to be miffed by the alleged lack of transparency in the party’s 2022 Account audit, which they said was “surreptitiously secured and submitted without any of the members sighting it.”
