PREMIER LEAGUE outfit Arsenal have reached an agreement with Dutch Eredivisie giants AFC Ajax Amsterdam for the transfer of Jurrien Timber.
The 22-year-old Dutch international who can play in a variety of roles, will arrive in North London in a deal worth £40.5 million.
Following weeks of negotiations, sporting director Edu has been successful in lowering the fee, after the Eredivisie side had put their initial valuation at around £50 million.
He becomes the club’s second-most expensive defensive signing after Ben White’s £50 million move from Brighton and Hove Albion in 2021 and is expected to undergo a medical this week.
Also, Timber will become the Gunners’ third signing of the 2023 summer transfer window, following deals for Kai Havertz from Chelsea last month and a record-breaking agreement with West Ham for the acquisition of Declan Rice.
It is not yet clear when Timber will join up with his Arsenal teammates. Mikel Arteta’s side travel to Germany for a training camp at Adidas HQ on 10th July, before facing FC Nurnberg in a friendly on the 13th of July.
They will then travel to America on 16 July for a 10-day pre-season tour of the United States, during which time they will face FC Barcelona, Manchester United and an MLS All-Stars team.
