IDRIS Olanrewaju Okuneye (known socially as Bobrisky) has pleaded guilty to four counts of abuse of the Naira preferred against him by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).
Justice Abimbola Awogboro of a Federal High Court sitting in Lagos has therefore convicted him accordingly.
The controversial cross-dresser was billed to be arraigned on six counts but two of the charges were dropped following a discussion between the parties involved.
When the charge was read, Bobrisky pleaded guilty to the first four counts bordering on Naira abuse.
Before the charge was read, however, the EFCC’s counsel, Suleiman Suleiman, asked the court to strike out counts five and six bothering on money laundering allegations.
Justice Abimbola Awogboro subsequently struck out counts five and six.
This paved the way for the arraignment of Bobrisky on only counts one to four.
When the counts were read, Bobrisky was asked if he understood the charge that was read to him, he replied, “Yes, I am guilty”.
Bobrisky identified himself in court as a social media influencer with over five million followers but said he was not aware that there was a law banning the abuse of the Naira.
Justice Awogboro, however, informed the cross-dresser that ignorance is not an excuse before the law.
The controversial cross-dresser regretted the action and pleaded for a second chance to enable him also educate his followers.
