A brilliant Nigerian man, Olushola Denshilu, who broke the 41-year-old record of Olabisi Onabanjo University, has earned a scholarship to pursue his PhD at the University of Arlinton, Texas, in the United States.
Olushola made history in 2021 as the first-ever student to graduate with a first-class degree in Mathematics since the university’s inception in 1982.
He shared his achievement on Linkedin highlighting his academic journey from when he broke the record. Olushola said after his graduation; he went on to have his compulsory one-year national service as an assistant lecturer at The Polytechnic Ibadan, Nigeria.
Upon completing his service year, Olushola was offered a permanent position as a Graduate Assistant (GA) at his alma mater, Olabisi Onabanjo University.
As a Graduate Assistant (GA), he was responsible for various duties, including proctoring exams, grading papers, conducting tutorials, assisting the Head of Department with extracurricular activities, and more.
Olushola said while navigating all these roles, he was also focused on developing himself to become a world-class mathematician through several opportunities, seminars, and online studies.
Olushola pursued a Master of Science in Mathematics at the same university where he was working, earning his degree in 2021.
He subsequently secured a prestigious PhD scholarship in Mathematics at a university in the United States. After facing rejection for two years, Olushola said he was thrilled to receive this scholarship opportunity.
With the scholarship, Olushola will be pursuing his PhD in Mathematics at the University of Texas Arlington. He expressed his hope that his story would inspire others to persevere through challenges.
