AFTER thirty-three (33) years of exiting the school, old students of Community Grammar School, Mokola, Ibadan (CGS 92 Glorious Set)
Saturday 11th January. 2025 converged on the Ibadan Recreation Club to relive old-time memories and friendships, merry and present gifts to former teachers from their illustrious alma mater.
Some of the old students indeed journeyed from as far as the diaspora just to be part of the event and reunite with their Nigerian old classmates to socialise, relive great experiences, compare notes and concretise their efforts in further developing their alma mater.
In his welcome address, the President of CGS 92 Glorious Set, Mr. Ajibola Oyeleke, thanked and extended his profound gratitude to the school principal, Mrs, S. B. Bello; management and staff members of the school for believing in his team and supporting its visions towards the growth and development of the school.
“Let me use this time to intimate us on this drive. Based on the retrospection ab initio and our individual positions presently, a vision was conceived to give back to our alma mater. To this end, different objectives were proposed and accepted in accordance with the constitution”, he stated.
In his statement, the former chairman, Oyo State Hospital Management Board, Chief (Dr) Adegoke Olubukola Adeyemo, described the CGS 92 Glorious Set as a helper of destinies as they give back to their alma mater. He promised to be available and supportive to the team at all times.
In her remarks, the vice president of CGS 92 Glorious Set, Mrs. Celestina Folorunso (Nee Ibe) maintained that unity was the key to CGS 92 Glorious Set’s achievement. She also gave kudos to the Project Committee Chairman, Mr. Darlinton Nwoke and his members.
The highlights of the event were anniversary lectures, mimicry of noble teachers, presentation of gifts, awards to former teachers, students and principal’s dance.
Merit awards were presented to the Ibadan North Local Government Chairman, Mr Oluwaseun Olufade (Onala) via his Chief of Staff, Mr Mustapha Handy Adekola; the writer and composer of CGS, Mokola Anthem; Yoruba teacher, Pastor Akinbami Oluwagbemiga; English teacher, Mrs Almakhu Bridget; PHE teacher, Mrs Okewole Olufemi; Maths teacher for JSS, Mr Akande Adepoju; and Maths teacher for SSS, Mr Ogunyinka Roland.
The old students appreciated God for the gift of life, and they took time to honour the memories of the deceased ones among them, as well as shared memorable experiences of their days as students.
The Community Grammar School, Mokola Ibadan was founded on the 16th of September 1983 with the motto: Education For Self Reliance.
