THE senator representing Abia North in the National Assembly, Orji Uzor Kalu, has urged President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to consider a return to payment of subsidy on fuel to alleviate the pervasive hunger in the country.
Speaking during a press conference at the National Assembly on Tuesday, the lawmaker said President Tinubu has though demonstrated strong political will by initiating economic reforms that no other leader has dared; he, however, opined that a rethink of some of the administration’s policies was most apposite.
Hear him: “I’m not in the economic team; I have not seen the President or anyone to ask, but this is what (the return of the subsidy) the President has to sit with his economic team to discuss.
“The decisions he has taken are what no President in the 60 years of the republic has been able to take.”
While noting that no president in the last 60 years had dared to reform Nigeria’s economy like President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Orji Kalu, however, emphasized that Nigeria is in a dire situation and citizens are suffering.
He urged the President to ensure a quicker relief measure to his economic policies.
According to Kalu: “No president in the last 60 years has dared to do what President Tinubu is doing to reform the economy. But we need to bring succour to Nigerians immediately.
“He has to act today, not tomorrow, because the situation is dire. No president elected by the people would want his citizens to suffer”, the former Abia State governor remonstrated.
